Dr. Kari Quaschnick

Growing up, I was a pain-free child.  Besides the occasional cold, I was fairly “healthy” as well.  Having said that, chiropractic care was not even considered an option for me.  During softball practice when I was 12 years old, I ran to the fence to chase a fly ball, and ended up on my knees not able to breathe.  I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma.  I had to depend on my rescue inhaler anytime I would exert myself playing basketball or volleyball throughout my high school and college years.  Let me tell you, it was not fun sitting out during conditioning drills because I could not catch my breath.  I would see the looks I was given from my teammates, and I did not like the feeling that I was weak.

During high school, we were asked to choose a career.  I knew I wanted to work with people and help them in any way that I could.  The human body has always amazed me, so the healthcare route was the obvious direction for me to take.  After researching the chiropractic field, I decided to pursue my degree.  The idea that I could help someone who was suffering with pain, without the use of medication, was very appealing.

Throughout my chiropractic education, my philosophy of health changed completely.  I used to believe that you were healthy if you felt good.  As I was adjusted on a regular basis, I gradually realized that I was not using my inhaler nearly as often.  Eventually, I was able to go to the gym without bringing my inhaler with, and that was very empowering for me.  I completely attribute the chiropractic adjustments to the decrease in my symptoms of asthma.  The knowledge I have gained throughout school and my years in practice has proved to me the importance of the nervous system on our health.  If there is interference in the communication pathway between the brain and our body parts, we won’t function well.  My lungs were not functioning well, and it turned out that I had misalignments in my spine that were putting pressure on the nerves that were going to my lungs.  When that pressure was relieved, my symptoms were relieved as well.  I am a huge advocate for the chiropractic profession, and I am so ecstatic that I chose to be a chiropractor.  I tell everyone I know to get checked by a chiropractor to make sure they are as healthy as they possibly can be!

Can babies with colic be helped with chiropractic?
It's probably one of the times a parent feels the most helpless. But based on the research, chiropractic and colic relief appear to go hand in glove. With success rates in the mid-90% range, more and more Rapid City parents are seeing a chiropractor. If you have a baby with colic learn how chiropractic may help.
How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
